1. Who we are

Funerl, Inc. ("Funerl," "we," "us," "our") operates funerl.com — an online marketplace for booking private venues for celebrations of life and similar gatherings. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

If you have questions, contact us at privacy@funerl.com.

2. What we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password (hashed — we never store it in plain text), and the role you chose (guest or host).

Profile information. You may optionally add a profile photo. Photos are stored on secure cloud storage.

Booking data. When you make or receive a booking we store the listing involved, date, time, guest count, any message you sent to the host, and your acceptance of the relevant waiver.

Listing data. Hosts provide venue title, description, photos, location (city and state), pricing, and availability hours when creating a listing.

Reviews. If you leave a review, we store the rating, written text, and the booking it relates to.

Usage data. Our hosting providers (Vercel, Supabase) may automatically collect standard web server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. We do not use advertising trackers or sell this data.

3. How we use your data

  • To create and manage your account
  • To facilitate bookings between guests and hosts
  • To send transactional emails (booking confirmation, host decisions, cancellations)
  • To display your name and photo on listings and reviews you are associated with
  • To allow hosts and guests to communicate through the platform
  • To maintain the security and integrity of the marketplace
  • To comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Who we share data with

Other users. Your display name and profile photo are visible to other users in the context of listings, bookings, and reviews. Your email address is never shown to other users.

Service providers. We use the following sub-processors to operate the platform:

  • Supabase — database and authentication (data hosted in the US)
  • Vercel — web hosting and serverless functions
  • Resend — transactional email delivery

Each provider is contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.

Legal requirements. We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of users or the public.

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate dispute resolution purposes.

Booking records may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and legal compliance purposes, with personal identifiers removed where possible.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of your data
  • Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@funerl.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies and tracking

Funerl uses only essential session cookies required for authentication. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or analytics that identify individual users. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from signing in.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including TLS encryption for data in transit and encryption at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Access to production data is limited to authorized personnel.

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to security@funerl.com.

9. Children

Funerl is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of any material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
